Are You A Reluctant Witness? (Excerpts from a study by John Bean)?

There are so many characters in the Bible that we can identify with when it comes to making excuses to God when He calls us to duty. One of my favorites is Moses who had three really good reasons why God should NOT call on him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Think about your own life as you consider Moses’ feeble attempt to tell God He was calling on the wrong guy!

A. I am weak and ineffective … Moses was thinking that taking on the Pharaoh of Egypt might be a bit daunting and tried to lead with this excuse.

B. I am unprepared and I might not be in control … When telling the Pharaoh that all of his slaves were going to depart the country that might be a little out of control for some of us, including me for sure.

C. I will lose the respect of all my family and friends … yea, this is the biggie for most of us. And, if God had told Moses ahead of time about the plagues that were going to happen, Moses would have been a basket case for sure.

God had an answer for Moses in all of these concerns:

A. I will be with you! This may be hard for our country to understand right now as we are going thru a period where our country is trying to rid ourselves of references to God in so many places, you must really look for the witnesses who are standing up for God as a presence in our land.

B. I am! Moses was so worried about “who am I” that he lost his moral and spiritual compass of knowing God is the great “I am”.

C. I will manifest My Power through you! God gave Moses many signs to confirm that he would know HIS power and would not have to rely on his own human power.

God is not looking for a strong and powerful instrument to work through; only a clean and dedicated one. God often uses the weakest of instruments to accomplish the mightiest of deeds!

What is God calling you to do right now?

II Corinthians 12:10 (NIV) “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
