God Is On The Comeback Trail
“The very things that were supposed to destroy religion—democracy and markets, technology and reason—are combining to make it stronger,” according to a recently published book called God Is Back. This is probably not a shock to you if you live in a part of the country that boasts mega churches or new churches in every elementary school in your neighborhood. The authors of this book, John Micklethwait & Adrian Wooldridge make a strong case for the strength of world wide revival but it has somehow missed the newscasts of the mainstream media.
Their work and analysis of events like the remnant church in China that survived Cultural Revolution and Communist efforts to sell atheism into the national psyche are a major example of how hard it is to force God into forsaking His people. The millions of believers in China are just one example of how the underground church has spread despite man’s efforts to subvert Christianity. Reports of new believers in Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan take place without much coverage in the American press. One of their points about why Christianity is making positive inroads is that the opportunity to become a believer is a choice! Have you seen or heard anyone on CNN point that difference out recently?
Contemporary church life in America today is Rock N Roll and Heavy Metal music in many churches each weekend. Without their outreach, many of our young people and their families would not be in church. Trying to balance modern methods with Biblical truth is working far better than many of us realized. People are coming back to a personal relationship to Christ in large numbers despite the fact that they are not claiming to be part of any denomination. If you want to be able to counter all the negativists who are still thinking God is Dead, look up a copy of God is Back and set them straight! Better yet, let them see Jesus thru your life and example …
Romans 8:31 (NIV) “What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”
