Malfunction In Judgement Only
Last year about this time, I shared with you that visiting Cedar Point with my grandson Spencer resulted in my observing a ride known as Top Thrill Dragster. You may recall that it was my initial reaction that something must have malfunctioned because this ride takes off at such a high rate of speed that surely no one in their right mind would build such a ride and further no one in their right mind would ride such a monster.
As I mentioned then, I was counting on my grandson to grow slowly so that I could put off having to explain why grandpa had too much discretion to ride something that goes at a posted speed of 120 MPH!!!! In case you have kids or grandkids that are taller than 52" in height, be prepared if you show up in Sandusky at the Point that you too will stand in line for an hour or two for a 15 second ride. That's right, 120 mph then straight up into the sky 420 feet; twisting and 420 feet straight back down to earth and twisting again.
This has some parallels to what it feels like in a bear market. The big difference is that the "Dragster" is over in 15 seconds, while bears can last for months and sometimes years. This current model of bear market has some long term potential as our abuses have been more egregious than usual, and our solutions of "just keep spending" are not likely to succeed this time. Government bailouts may have to give way to return to basic fundamentals and only time will tell how much more pain the economy can absorb. As we all learn to handle the challenges of this new version of our economic lives, remember we serve a big God who is still in charge!
Psalm 46: 1-6 "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts."
