CONFESSION
AT LAST! BRONCO BURGERS FOR EVERYONE!
t was January 14, 1990, and
I was out for revenge! My beloved Cleveland Browns
had experienced the "Drive" and
the "Fumble" and all without me there to cheer them
on. On that day, I entered Mile High Stadium with
a small entourage of six friends (two of them Denver
fans) determined to turn the tide of winning a championship
game in favor of the Browns. One of my clients helped
me make a sign that read:
"DAWGS EAT BRONCO BURGERS FOR
LUNCH"
We not only got past the security guards with this
sign but I was in a section that faced out to the parking
lots where all of the fans were entering the stadium.
It was just high enough to let everyone see it as they
arrived, but also high enough that fans who tried to
climb up the outside wall could not get high enough
to reach it and pull it down. The sign stayed up the
entire game. Despite my best efforts, Cleveland could
not win that game either and they have wallowed ever
since their return to the NFL as a perennial loser.
My reasoning for confession of this long past civil
disobedience is not because of moral conviction, but
because of the actions of the Broncos this past weekend
in the NFL draft. Their coaching staff and management
moved beyond all of the smartest minds in football
and drafted Tim Tebow in the FIRST round. Perhaps you
think I am naive to the point of thinking Denver drafted
him just because of his positive character. No, they
drafted him because they think he will help them win
football games. But they do love who he is as a man
for sure.
I have asked you on many previous MMM’s
to pray for Tim in his efforts to present a positive
Christian witness to the world and I continue that
request. It appears that he will have another stage
to show how a man can serve The Lord and be a witness
to a world that seems to value the most pragmatic of
virtues. I never thought I would live to say this,
but THANK YOU DENVER BRONCOS! I will start cheering
for you after all!!
Luke 21:34-36 (NIV) "Be
careful, or your hearts will be weighted down with
dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life,
and that day will close on you unexpectedly like
a trap. For it will come upon all those who live
on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the
watch, and pray that you may be able to escape
all that is about to happen, and that you may be
able to stand before the Son of Man."
