HOW
CAN WE MOVE TOWARD ALL GETTING ALONG?
A new book is coming out
this week and it will certainly bring with it much
controversy. No, it is not Kingdom
Gains, my work in progress but we hope
to have some pre-order activity for that coming soon. The
book I am referring to was highlighted in the weekend
Wall Street Journal, The Son of Hamas. This
book tells the story of Mosab Hassan Yousef who is
the son of one of the founders of the Palestinian
terrorist group Hamas who has since converted to
Christianity.
This is a monumental event
for any Muslim who chooses to accept Christ as their
Savior and move from their family heritage and tradition. No more familial
support; no more family activities; hardly any family
time together in any way other than perhaps confrontational
challenges to their sanity. This is one of the
hardest concepts for Americans to appreciate or understand
because we have already broken down many of our family
traditions but even more so because freedom of religion
is something we respect. It is difficult to portray
the cultural changes that happen to a Muslim person
who converts in a society that is so dominated by those
traditions.
That is why Mr. Yousef’s words were so compelling. “The
problem is not in Muslims, he continues. The problem
is with their God. They need to be liberated from their
God. He is their biggest enemy. It has been 1,400 years
they have been lied to.” Many people would
like to kill him for this kind of statement and for
his actions. I am dwarfed by the courage and
perception of this new brother in the Lord. Not
only am I anxious to read this book, I am hopeful that
I can accept the greatest challenges to my faith with
a thread of courage similar to Mr. Yousef. As
he is praying for other Middle Easterners to know Christ,
think of who God is calling you to share the Good News
of the Gospel with today!
Psalm 5:4-6 (NIV) “You
are not a God who takes pleasure in evil; with
you the wicked cannot dwell. The arrogant cannot
stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong.
You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and
deceitful men the Lord abhors.”
