Memories on Mother's Day?

We all can recall vivid images of women who have exemplified the role of mother. In each of our families we have experienced the love of a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, or friend who enriched our lives by the way they cared for us. While spending time in church today seeing all the families coming in and out with all different combinations of parents and siblings, I was reminded of one of the greatest stories of someone who has 27 children and she is not even 30 years of age. Her name is Rachel Ortega (Sanson) and she lives in El Salvador.

Rachel is part of a family who has set a high standard for giving to others. When she was a teenager, she went on her first mission trip to an orphanage in El Salvador. She not only fell in love with the children there, she also fell in love with Mauricio, who also was helping out in the orphanage. Several years later, they have their own orphanage that has rescued children from a garbage dump and they are raising them to be productive and healthy citizens. Their community of children is called Love and Hope and they truly have given many children an abundance of both. I encourage you to visit their website via the group Teams to the Nations at www.teamsothenations.org

The reason this thought entered my mind today is that I was privileged to have been part of a men's mission team that worked on some of the early construction needs of the orphanage when Rachel and Mauricio received their very first 3 children. I can still see those kids with their ribs showing from malnutrition and their immediate affection for the love and hope that was given them. Somewhere, there is a mission project in your church or thru a mission organization that is in need of your special presence. It could be in sports ministry, a work project, a medical services project, a teaching need, or many other needs that will go unmet if we don't step up to help. It could be in your own city or right around the corner that the need is to be met, but it also could be around the world. Wherever you sense God is calling you, JUST GO!

John 20:21 "Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you."
